Acadia National Park charges an entrance fee for all visitors. You must display a valid pass on your dashboard while inside the park boundaries. This guide covers the current rates and extra costs like the Cadillac Mountain vehicle reservation.

How much is the Acadia National Park entrance fee?

A standard private vehicle pass costs $35 and covers everyone in the car for 7 days.

If you enter the park by private car, you only need one $35 pass. This allows unlimited entry to Mount Desert Island, the Schoodic Peninsula, and surrounding areas for a full week. You must display this pass clearly through your windshield.

What is the new fee for international visitors?

Starting in 2026, non-U.S. residents aged 16 and older must pay an additional $100 surcharge.

This fee applies per person, not per vehicle. If you live outside the United States and are 16 or older, you will add this $100 charge to your base entrance pass. Visitors under 16 are exempt from this extra fee.

Do I need a separate ticket for Cadillac Mountain?

Yes, you need a $6 vehicle reservation to drive up Cadillac Summit Road.

This reservation is required from late May to late October (May 20–October 25 in 2026). It is separate from your standard park entrance pass. You must book this $6 ticket in advance, as the park does not sell them at the entrance station.

Do guided tours include the park entrance fee?

Some guided tours include the entrance fee, while others require you to buy your own pass.

Check the details before booking. Private tours and large bus tours often handle the fees and paperwork for you. Self-guided audio tours do not include park entry or vehicle reservations.

Are there free ways to get around the park?

The Island Explorer shuttle is free to ride, though you still need a park entrance pass.

This propane-powered bus connects towns, campgrounds, and trailheads from late June through early October. Using the shuttle helps you avoid paying for parking or dealing with full lots at popular spots.

Do I have to pay to walk or bike the carriage roads?

You do not pay an extra fee to use the carriage roads, but you must have a general park pass.

Acadia has 45 miles of historic, motor-free carriage roads. You can hike, walk, or rent an e-bike to explore them. Motorized vehicles are strictly prohibited here.
