Most visitors start their trip on the East Side. This area features the highest peak on the U.S. eastern seaboard and miles of rocky coastline. Parking fills quickly in summer, so consider riding the free propane-powered Island Explorer bus.

You need a $35 vehicle pass to enter this section. Starting in 2026, non-U.S. residents aged 16 and older pay an additional $100 surcharge.
